Christians – don’t chicken out now!

By John Sykes

Watching the Chick-fil-A roast, it seems that every week intensifies the attack on conservative Christian values. And it’s a delight watching the twitter world filet the progressive haters that would deny any right to disagree with them, much less hold a faith-based position.

But where are the churches? I haven’t heard a peep this week from any local church. Are our chicken Christians afraid to break the spiral of silence?

In A Price to Pay - We Dare not Chicken Out, Eric Metaxas asks and exhorts:

Do we or do we not have the courage of our convictions to defend marriage, to defend free speech, to defend freedom of religion? Do our freedoms, does our faith, matter to us more than the opinion of some others? Will we allow our reputations and our profits to suffer before we will allow our freedoms to erode?

Folks, we have no choice but to speak out. Not to lash out, but to speak out, winsomely but firmly. We must break the spiral of silence.

Christians, don’t dismiss the attack on Chick-fil-A as trivial. it’s really time to step up and out. Don’t wait for the pulpit or some popular leader to shove you out of your pew.

Aug. 1 is the day to visit your local Chick-fil-A to express your support. Please do so. On the way, and on the way back, and often thereafter, please pray this scripture from 2 Chronicles 7:14:

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

I know He hears everything we ask. I just hope He’s not completely fed up with us by now.
